Online Counselling
What is online counselling?
Online counselling is essentially the same as face-to-face counselling except that we would have the session
remotely using your computer, mobile or tablet.
How does it compare to visiting a counsellor in person?
Research has shown that online counselling can be as effective as face-to-face counselling. However, there are some
drawbacks. For example, sometimes the image may not be perfectly clear, there may be audio glitches if the connection
isn't good, and we can't make eye contact in the same way as in person. For these reasons your assessment session
would also be an opportunity for you to try out this way of working.
How does it work?
Your session would be run using Zoom because it's more secure than other video communication services. Zoom can be
used on a laptop, tablet or mobile phone. I would send you an email invitation to join Zoom and ask you to follow that,
download the app and install it on your device. I'd suggest trying it out on your own before we meet remotely.
When meeting, you'd need to ensure you have privacy for your call.
Can I use Skype or FaceTime?
Because of security and reliability, I'm not offering counselling on these services. Therefore you'd need to install
Zoom on your device to allow me to work with you. If there are minor problems then we can use the phone for part of a session;
alternatively we could use VSEE instead of Zoom if necessary.
Other concerns or questions?
I'd be happy to answer any questions over the phone. Please email me or leave me a text or voicemail and we can arrange
a mutually convenient time to talk.
